Program Description

From the start of his administration six years ago, Mayor Bieter has emphasized sustainability and economic development as two of the primary contributors to Boise's livability. The current recession makes those efforts more difficult and, according to the Mayor, more urgent. It provides an unprecedented opportunity to leverage "green" initiatives into jobs, infrastructure and economic growth.

Mayor Bieter will discuss the ways in which the city is using more than $2 million in federal energy efficiency stimulus grants to reduce Boise's carbon footprint and put people to work, how the soon-to-open Greenhouse business incubator will provide a launching pad for a new generation of sustainable-industry startups, and how projects such as the much debated downtown streetcar point a way toward a more efficient, environmentally friendly transportation system throughout the valley.

Some say the Mayor's proposals reflect the kind of refreshing leadership that is needed in the state. Others say his proposals are out of touch with today's hard realities. Please join us, bring your questions for the Mayor, and judge for yourself whether the Mayor's vision makes sense for Boise and the Treasure Valley.
