Program Description

Dennis McLerranDennis McLerran began his presidential appointment as Regional Administrator of Region 10 of the United States Environmental Agency on February 22, 2010. As Regional Administrator he oversees the federal implementation and enforcement of environmental laws and programs in Idaho, Oregon, Washington and Alaska. His role in carrying out these duties and the policies of the Obama administration will impact any number of Idaho environmental and natural resource issues. Mr. McLerran's tenure begins as EPA ushers in new federal environmental standards and initiatives concerning ozone, drinking water contaminates, NPDES permitting, climate change and federal enforcement priorities--to name just a few. All of which are complicated by a faltering economy, diminished resources, diverse states and tribes and the increasing rancor and gridlock of national political division.

Modestly stated, Mr. McLerran is assuming a challenging position in interesting times. His resume reflects a strong public service background from which to draw. He most recently was the Executive Director of the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency, a state chartered regional air quality agency for an area encompassing 3.5 million Washington state residents. Prior positions included City Attorney for Port Townsend and Director of the Seattle Department of Construction and Land Use.

Please join us in welcoming Dennis McLerran on April 6 to discuss his vision and priorities and those of the Environmental Quality Agency as the new Regional Administrator of E Region 10.
