Ranching in Central Idaho Wolf Country:
How Ranchers, Wolves and Wildlife Co-Exist in the Wood River Valley

SPEAKERS

Regan Berkley, Regional Biologist, Region 4, Idaho Department of Fish and Game

Suzanne Stone, Northern Rockies Representative, Defenders of Wildlife

John Faulkner, Rancher

Program Description
The future for the Phantom Hill Wolf Pack looked bleak last spring.  The band of black wolves had repeatedly raided sheep herds that graze in the rugged country near Sun Valley.  If the wolves resumed killing sheep in the summer of 2008, wildlife agencies were prepared for “lethal removal” of the entire pack.

The fact that the Phantom Hill wolves are still alive is a tribute to the efforts of an unlikely alliance.  Our speakers will share the surprising story of how ranchers, wolf advocates, and agency biologists worked day-to-day to keep the wolves and the sheep apart.  They’ll tell us about their creative techniques, the close calls, and what it is really like to work among the wolves and sheep in the mountains of Central Idaho.
