Idaho Environmental Forum Luncheon #176

How Green is the Forest?
Sustainable Forest Certification and Market Transformation in Idaho

A collaboration of the Idaho Environmental Forum and the US Green Building Council Idaho Chapter

Speakers: Corey Brinkema, President, Forest Stewardship Council-US; and Jason Metnick, Senior Director of Market Access and Product Labeling, Sustainable Forestry Initiative Inc.

The Program: Certification systems for sustainable forest management have been around since the 1990s, but only recently have gathered much general interest. Two major certification systems are at the center of a current debate, which has drawn reactions from environmentalists, designers, forestry professionals and politicians across the U.S., including Idaho's governor and congressmen. Why certify forest sustainability? The obvious reason is to help ensure that forest lands and their related environments-including nearby communities--are productive well into the future. But a big reason for certification is simple economics: it adds value to wood products.

Thanks for your support of the IEF.
